Plain Line Tampers (Including Super Tampers)

The Fastline OTM plain line tamping fleet comprises of:

  • 07 series (16 and 32 tool)
  • 08 series (16 tool)
  • 09 series (32 tool)
  • Super Tamper

The 07 range treats each sleeper by stopping the machine during each maintenance cycle. Changes in track geometry are achieved by lifting the rails, which are fastened to the sleepers to the required lift and alignment, and packing the ballast beneath the sleeper in order to produce a firmer base. The track is then released and the process repeated at the following sleepers.

Our 07/12 machines consist of:

The 07/16 range can treat one sleeper at a time and is often referred to as a ‘single header’, and is ideally suited for renewals work but can equally achieve desirable output whilst utilised for maintenance tamping. These machines are also preferred to for steel sleeper works.

Our 07/16 range includes:

The 07/32 machines can treat two sleepers at a time and is often referred to as a ‘duo’ or ‘double header’. They are ideally suited for maintenance tamping but can additionally work on renewals. Also within the fleet there are machines capable of tamping 3rd rail electrified lines, with specially modified tamping banks with 12 tools.

Machines in this range are:

Our 08 machines include:

The 09 series are continuous action tamping machines, which operate in a similar way to the 07 series tampers. However, the machine moves continuously and the ‘satellite’, which houses the tamping banks and the lifting and lining frame indexes between the sleepers. These vehicles are ideally suited for maintenance tamping and high output can be achieved if the track conditions permit (i.e. regular sleeper spacing and no excess ballast).

Fastline Super Tampers have been developed by Fastline in order to replace old tamping machines with new ones. Drawing upon our vast experience accrued during operations and maintenance of the UK’s largest machine fleet, Fastline can solve many identified, long term issues. Based upon a structured review of our existing Plasser and Theurer Series 07 Tamper fleet, Fastline specialists have developed a highly cost effective package of work. A detailed, performance based, specification ensures that the selected donor machine is turned into a ‘Super Tamper’ and its life-clock is effectively re-set. In just a few weeks, a machine is transformed into the most modern, efficient machine that incorporates features designed to eliminate faults and improve operator ergonomics – not to mention safety.

The machine starts a new working life – fully refurbished and incorporating proven improvements that really do offer the best value for money available.

Another innovative approach from Fastline, the Super Tamper, has produced a machine, which is superior in performance to those available in the current marketplace. Specific improvements include:

  • Full wiring upgrade
  • Proportional tamping bank control
  • Proportional working drive
  • Fully PLC controlled working system
  • Supervisory control and data acquisition
  • Condition monitoring
  • Improved accuracy of track geometry
  • Remote GSM link diagnostics
  • Static tower
  • VAB approved

Supertampers we have completed are as follows:
