Fastline Freight officially names one of its locomotives Wilson Walshe

On Monday 1st October 2007 Fastline Freight officially named one of its Class 56 locomotives – 56302 – Wilson Walshe.

Wilson Walshe, who sadly died earlier this year, became Jarvis’s Professional Head of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1996. Wilson was instrumental in overseeing the refurbishment of Fastline’s Class 56 locos and ultimately helped to establish Fastline Freight last year. With more than 36 years in the Rail industry Wilson’s enthusiasm, wealth of technical and engineering knowledge and his early career experience in traction maintenance ensured the timely and extensive refurbishment of the locomotives.

Chief Executive of Jarvis, Richard Entwistle, said: “The refurbishment of the Class 56s was Wilson’s last major project for Jarvis and the naming is a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the company and the rail industry.

“Fastline Freight’s three locomotives will become eight by April next year with the addition of five new Class 66s, which have been ordered to service the recently awarded five year coal haulage contract with E.ON. Wilson was a part of making this little acorn grow and we are delighted that his wife Joan joined the team to commemorate his achievements.”
