SDSU advances to Women’s WNIT Championship

BROOKINGS, SD (KELO) – The SDSU women’s team advanced to their first WNIT Championship with a 62-59 victory over UCLA on Thursday night.

SDSU will host Seton Hall at the WNIT Championships on Saturday. The tip is set for 2 p.m.

In front of a crowd, the Zacrobeats won the game and carried it to the final minute of the match.

The first few minutes saw a 4-4 draw, and both of those errors quickly paid off.

Delayed Mistake The match was delayed until the first game when UCLA were awarded three free throws and tied at 12. They will get the money and be 15-12 ahead one by one.

The offensive struggle continued into the second quarter.

UCLA scored just ten points in the quarter, but seemed to be ahead of them until the final second inning.

Paiton Burckhard blocked a rival Bruin player during a quick break. Tyley Irwin grabbed the rebound and ran to the ground, finishing with damage to the hoop and the bass.

At the break, SDSU led 27-25.

The third quarter saw another sharp battle, but UCLA took the lead 6-0. With ten minutes to play a Haleigh Timmer layup, SDSU will close the quarter strongly as the game is tied at 40.

Jax made it 10-1, but the Bruins answered 4-0, making it 46-45.

In the final two minutes, the match moved on as each team took the lead and struck.

With less than a minute to go, Hayley Timmer connected a 15-foot base jumper to the front.

Jax led 60-58 with 38 seconds to play.

Two Tory Nelson clutch free throws gave them a 62-59 lead, after a defensive stop, the Zacrobeats won a 62-59 victory over UCLA.

They are going to their first WNIT Championship!
