Conditions are forecast to begin to deteriorate this afternoon and into the night with severe weather impacting portions of western and northern Louisiana first. The system has the potential to be a two-day event moving across the state early Tuesday morning and into Tuesday afternoon / night.

Stay tuned to local weather forecasts for changing weather conditions and alerts for emergency conditions. If you must travel, remain vigilant and exercise caution. Slow down your speed, increase the following distance, and wear your seat belt. Never drive down flooded roads or around barricades.

Road closures and detours can be found with the Louisiana Traveler Information System through several different methods including the 511 telephone system,, LA DOTD Twitter accounts and the “Louisiana 511” smartphone application.

Depending on the method used, the traveler information system allows access to valuable resources such as current road reports on crashes, weather related closures and construction, as well as real time traffic camera views.

If you experience difficulties or witness to hazardous situations while on the highway, you can notify the nearest state police troops by dialing * LSP (* 577) from your cell phone.
