D’Mari Johnson was shot in the back of the head outside the Golden Glide ice rink in Decatur on April 10.

The incident occurred around 1am right outside the front door of the building.

So far, no arrests have been made. Johnson is in a medically induced coma, fighting for his life, his parents said.

The family’s lawyers said in a press conference on Monday that they blamed not only the shooter but also the Golden Glide for the shooting.

“D’Mari is fighting for his life, so we are asking this community to fight for him,” said attorney Sean Williams.

Williams asked anyone who saw the shooting or might have more information to call the DeKalb County Police Department.

$ 10,000 is offered for any information that leads to an arrest.

“Most important for this family is to discover and bring to justice the people or persons involved in the shooting of their son,” Williams said.

Williams said the family felt they were not getting enough information from the DeKalb County Police about the state of the investigation. They also believe that the rink should be held accountable.

“Their child was shot in a place with a history of trouble and violence,” Williams said. “Golden Glide has a history of violence in the place, a history of violence and shootings. We believe that the shooting would not have taken place if the site had been properly secured.

Founded to help the family with medical expenses, GoFundMe raised nearly $ 5,000.
