Women’s Final Fourth 2022 Results: South Carolina and UConn win, play for National Championship on Sunday

The 2022 Women’s NCAA Tournament falls into two teams: South Carolina and UConn. Gamecox and Huskies gathered their last four wins in Minneapolis on Friday and set up a star-studded national championship on Sunday.

South Carolina, AP’s Wire-to-Wire No. 1 team, opened the final four game against No. 1 Louisville at the goal center. The match was a clash of real giants, with both teams coming into the match winning all but one of their tournament matches by two numbers. Gamecocks went 72-59 to reach their second national title in the last five years.

The national championship was locked after UConn defeated current national champion Stanford. At UConn’s Paige Bueckers, the Cardinal took a 63-58 lead with 14 points.

Here’s what fell in every last four games.

  • Three days after winning the Nicemith Player of the Year, Alia Boston’s 72-59 win over Louisville showed exactly why he deserves the honor of dominating. Despite facing doubles and triple teams, Boston led South Carolina with 23 points, 18 rebounds and four assists. South Carolina now has a chance to win its first national title since 2017. Emily Engstler of Louisville had 18 points, nine rebounds and four thefts.
  • UConn’s Paige Bueckers scored 14 points with four conversions and five assists to give the Huskies a 63-58 victory over defending national champions Stanford. The Huskies’ defense was equally decisive in the victory, with Stanford – who had gathered within 2 minutes in the last minute but had just collapsed – hit 35.4% off the field and made only 4 of 23 3-point attempts. UConn is now looking for its first national title since 2016 against No. 1 overall South Carolina.
